We Are Greatly Inclined to Our Will
Our hearts contain a fantastic desire to do what we want and not what the true God wants. This inclination toward sin is so great that it might not seem possible to avoid falling, but God tells us we must not let it reign over us.
“Sin [our will] must not reign over your mortal bodies so that you obey their desires” (Romans 6:12).
With the power of God’s grace, seeking and doing our will can be controlled, truly hated, and crushed. We can obtain a new heart and spirit from God, saving and then sanctifying our souls.
”
There is no need to perish from this attachment to sin. God is to save/help us.
To obtain this new heart, we need to practice unceasing prayer and engage in the humble surrendering of our will to the will of God.
Simple Ways to Surrender Our Will
To surrender our complete will, so we may desire nothing but God and His will with every thought, word, and action is not as complicated as one might think.
The 10 steps to surrendering your will to God:
- Never want to sin again (only want to do God’s will at all moments);
- Want God’s grace to move our EVERY thought, word, and action (don’t want to do anything on our own);
- Constantly seek God–His grace–for enlightenment to know what to think, say, or do (knowing we constantly need His help);
- Do what we feel is God’s will (according to our ability to correctly hear Him) after we prayed looking to know His will;
- Ask God to help us do His will: for strength and guidance;
- Do it through prayer with the same intention as Jesus; which is to help save and sanctify souls–ours and other’s (no matter what we are doing);
- Seek and carry the cross (according to God’s will) through everything like Christ;
- Pray for God to remove all sin from our thoughts, words, and deeds as we do His will;
- Seek to learn from our efforts to do God’s will (where we went wrong, how to improve and change);
- Repent and change when you failed to perfectly do His will;
Repeat until perfect–doing all with the intention to LOVE GOD (to not offend Him, grieve His Sacred Heart) or to not increase His suffering at His crucifixion (who bore the weight of all our sins).
9. Learn Where We Went Wrong
If we tried to do something we felt was God’s will but failed to do it, then we need to see why that occurred and implement a resolution to see we don’t repeat ourselves and fail again.
We are very foolish people who will repeat and repeat ourselves, even if we have some desire to refrain from it unless we make a firm commitment and do something to change.
If we really care about leaving our sins, we need to very specifically look into the problem and find a way to correct it.
For example:
The problem: We neglect to pray dedicated prayer before we start our day, which is God’s will as all the saints–who have correct wisdom–have done this. They would never consider just running off to work or Church without preparing themselves with the help of God’s grace.
Why do we do fail? If we want to know why we do something, we must be blaintedly honest with ourselves… looking for it and stating it how it really is.
We don’t pray for God’s great grace to envelop us at the beginning of our day because we don’t fully understand (believe) our NEED. Therefore, we lack grace, which is what gives us belief.
Sure, we might have some belief as we will think we understand, but our actions prove us only to be half-hearted believers.
For if we only really believed that we couldn’t do anything good without His grace moving us, we most certainly wouldn’t neglect a moment of prayer.
Step one: Humbly admit our lack of faith (lack of grace) and understand our need for it. We can’t embrace God’s grace if we don’t know we need it.
If we deceive ourselves into thinking we are holy, saved, righteous people when we are not, we will reject any grace God is sending to us from our blinding pride.
Step two: State the truth. “I didn’t pray my morning prayers because I wanted to go on my computer more than I wanted to love God and seek His grace,” or “I wanted to continue to sleep rather than wake up a few moments early to love God and seek His grace since I apparently felt I didn’t need Him from being self-reliant” or whatever it is that we did.
We must stop living for our pride by pretending to be “good” people when we are not. Our happiness needs to stop revolving around our greatness (which is nothing but lies, for only God is good). Therefore, we must begin caring about God above our pride and stop reducing our crimes against Him… and say it how it is.
Want to know why we do what we do and claim it as who we are. If we don’t know why we do what we do, state it as clearly as we can asking to to enlighten you.
Without gaining humility, we will continue to refute His help.
Repeat until perfect–doing all with the intention to LOVE GOD (to not offend Him, grieve His Sacred Heart) or to not increase His suffering at His crucifixion (who bore the weight of all our sins).
